Directors’ Profile

The Company’s board is comprised of 5 Directors, each an expert in his own field and leverages on their combined wealth of experience and industry foresight to steer the Company. Below are the profiles of the Directors:

1. Mr. Alex Mbatha – Managing Director

Alex is the immediate former Managing Director of FinBank S.A, a commercial bank based in Burundi, and since his takeover in 2014 has been instrumental in turning around the bank into a profitable institution. He also steered the Bank to be the 1st Bank in Burundi to integrate Mobile Money Services, Ecocash, with Banking Services, providing customers with a seamless and new way of carrying out financial transactions. In 2014, he was among those voted in the Nation Media Group initiative recognizing business leaders under the age of 40, dubbed “top 40 under 40”.

He has previously served as Chief Finance Officer (CFO) of Fina Bank Ltd (now known as Guaranty Trust Bank) with oversight over 3 countries: Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda. He also served as Head of Financial Control, Strategy and Research, at Ecobank Kenya; and in other various roles in finance at Diamond Trust Bank (Kenya) and EABS Bank (nowEcobank)

He has wealth of experience in financial management, strategy formulation and execution by virtue of being a leader of a commercial bank and participating in various executive committees of different financial institutions. Prior to joining FinBank S.A, he was serving as Vice-Chairman of the Finance Committee of Kenya Bankers Association.

He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from the University of Nairobi, is a Certified Public Accountant of Kenya (CPA-K) and a member of Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK).

2. Mr. Louis Niyongabo

Mr. Niyongabo is a holder of a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Information Management from Adventist University of Central Africa and Senior Air Traffic Control and Aeronautical Information Services Certificates from East Africa School of aviation.

He has over 15 years’ experience in IT Systems, with detailed experience in the banking and finance systems. His IT Consultancy firm has provided IT Solutions to various banks in Rwanda (I&M, BPR, GT Bank, Ecobank, Opportunity Bank and Access Bank).

Beyond the region, his firm was hired in US (Boston) to work on consultancy services to design an Automation Payment System funded by World Bank to link the Banks and the Service Providers through a shared switch. Recently before joining DFCU, he was working with Gold Frontiers in US (Boston) on a development of a new IT system, Bullion Gateway, for the electronic trading of precious metals."

3. Mr. Kamau Wanjohi

Mr. Wanjohi holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematical Statistics and Masters in Population Studies. He is currently pursuing Professional Certification in Sustainable Development from the University of London

He started his career 15 years ago as a Statistician with the renowned American Public Institution Centers for Disease Control and after 5 years of on job practical training, joined the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). In the past 10 years, he has worked in different countries providing tech solutions to FAO. Currently, he covers 12 countries in East and Central Africa as Technical Advisor in Food Security Analysis.

He is Director and Shareholder in several companies across several industries including; technology & telecoms, agriculture, hospitality, public relations and finance.
